Inexpensive Ways to Grow Your Business

inexpensive ways to grow your business

Looking for inexpensive ways to grow your business is a lot of hard work. It doesn’t just involve doing the things you love and are great at. It also requires you to step out of your comfort zone and do some things that you may never thought you’d do.

Building a successful business takes so much more than just having a great product or service. If no one knows about you, then it doesn’t matter how good what you are offering is. That’s where marketing comes in.

Five Cost Effective Ways to Grow Your Business

Marketing comes in all shapes and sizes, from doing it yourself, to hiring an agency to take care of it for you. It can be totally digital, but can also include print. You can have a website, social media presence, videos and blogs. You can advertise in newspapers, send out flyers, sponsor a team or have a billboard. The list goes on and on. So how do you know what will work for growing your business?

There are some things that work better than others, but there are also things that are really simple, budget-friendly, and work great in your digital space regardless of what your business is.

1. Website

Even if you are on a tight budget, consider creating a website. Today’s customers are not going to wait until your bricks and mortar is open between 9-5 to do business. They want to be able to reach out regardless of the time. It allows them to do their own research, see what you offer compared to your competitors and check out your products and services from the comfort of their own home.

In today’s technological climate it is almost impossible to grow your business without a website. If you don’t have one, consider checking out some of the platforms that offer free or low cost options, such as Wix. There are lots of other options out there as well, so do your research to see which one meets your needs best.

2. Build an Email List

Make a list of all of your clients, potential clients, past clients, suppliers, etc. Then market to that list. Send a monthly or quarterly newsletter with news about your industry or things that you believe will interest them. Send sales and offers that are exclusive to your email list. Offer advanced buyinging for “valued members” only…. 4.3 billion people use email every day.

Email marketing may feel retro but it continues to be important for growth.  Many customers expect to hear from you and it is a simple and easy way to grow your business. The bigger your list, the more people you can connect with. Again, it doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. Using something as simple as MailChimp does the trick and is cost effective until your business is ready for something more advanced.

3. Social Media

Social Media is one form of marketing that is often overlooked. However, it is a powerhouse marketing tool. Social media is where people connect. They talk with friends, follow businesses, groups of interest, and influencers, and they share the things they find interesting, informative and entertaining. The best part, it can all be done for free! What better way to get your brand recognized and grow your business than by having others promote it? Oh but don’t go all business on your socials. People want to see the “real” you. Posts about products and services get limited response. However, posts celebrating an employee’s achievements, your community service, or company get togethers get noticed and shared!

4. Testimonials

Actions speak louder than words. That’s why testimonials from happy customers who have taken the time to review your business are so vital to growing your business. Potential new customers trust others’ opinions and go looking for them. So if you want people to like and trust you, you need to build up those testimonials. Getting testimonials is easy. Just ask customers to review your business on Google Reviews or one of the many other testimonial sites out there. If people are pleased with your service, they are generally happy to take a few minutes to offer a review.

5. Become the Authority

What does that mean? It simply means that you become the first name people think of when they think of your industry. For instance, most people don’t call a tissue a tissue, they call it a Kleenex. Why? Because Kleenex’s parent company, Kimberly-Clark has done an outstanding job of making Kleenex a household name! Although you might be on a much smaller scale, you can do essentially the same sort of thing – create content that gives people the information they are looking for, write blogs talking about various aspects of your industry, record videos talking about your employees, company events, your favorite products and services, etc…

Post all of it on your website and social media. This builds your credibility and online reputation, which moves you higher in the ever so important search engine rankings. The higher you are, the more authority you have, which increases people’s trust and helps you grow your business!

Although, as mentioned earlier, there are many ways to market your business and make your business grow, in today’s world, digital marketing is the most cost effective and offers the best return on investment.
